FAQ

Common licensing questions.

Why does Refract need a commercial license?

Refract is AGPL-3.0. You can freely use, modify, and distribute it — but if you modify it and deploy it as a network service, you must release your modifications. A commercial license removes that obligation.

What counts as proprietary integration?

Using Refract's event stream, analyzers, or SDK within a product or service that you do not wish to release as open source. The commercial license covers internal tools, client deliverables, and SaaS products that use Refract.

How is this different from using Refract under AGPL?

Under AGPL, any modification you deploy as a network service must be released. The commercial license waives this requirement. You can modify Refract, integrate it into proprietary systems, and distribute it without open-sourcing your changes.

Does the Developer license cover contractors?

Yes. The per-developer count includes full-time employees and contractors actively working with the Refract codebase.

What support is included?

Developer: standard GitHub issue tracking. Enterprise: priority responses within 2 business days. OEM: dedicated engineering contact with custom SLA.
